MARRIAGE LICENSES
Residents can schedule appointments for Marriage License Certificates by phone or email with the Township Clerk/Registrar of Vital Statistics. Payment for the marriage license ($28) must be paid at the time of applicants’ submission (these fees are in play again and were only waived from July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023). A mandatory 72-hour wait time begins once the application for the marriage ceremony is received. Once a license is issued, marriage license is good for 30-days and must be returned to the Registrar
where the marriage ceremony is taking place within five days of the marriage ceremony. Marriage licenses are not a legal document used for name changes or proof of marriage. !!!!! PLEASE NOTE !!!!! If both marriage license applicants are from OUT OF STATE, you must apply in the municipality in which you will be married and you BOTH must have out-of-state IDs or adequate proof that you both reside OUTSIDE of New Jersey (i.e., if you both live in Connecticut and are getting married in Hope Township, you need to apply in Hope Township). IF ONE OR BOTH OF YOU are NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS, you MUST apply in the municipality in which either one of you resides (i.e., if one resides in Hope Township and one resides in Knowlton Township, you may choose either municipality to apply in).
